Decision 34/2023 to adopt NWI for revision of EN 12697-25:2016 Bituminous mixtures – Test methods – Part 25: Cyclic compression test

Scope

This document specifies test methods for determining the resistance to permanent deformation of bituminous mixtures by cyclic compression tests with confinement.

- Test method A – Uniaxial cyclic compression test with confinement consist of two test methods with different loading conditions:

- Test method A1 Block pulse loading is applicable to bituminous mixtures other than Mastic Asphalt;

- Test method A2 Haversine pulse loading is applicable to Mastic Asphalt; Test method B Triaxial cyclic compression test is applicable to all kind of bituminous mixtures.

NOTE 1 Confinement of the test specimen is necessary to simulate realistic rutting behaviour, especially for gapgraded mixtures with a large stone fraction.

The tests are applicable to specimens prepared in the laboratory or cored from the road with upper sieve less than or equal to 32 mm.

The tests make it possible to rank various mixtures or to check on the acceptability of a given mixture. They do not allow making a quantitative prediction of rutting in the field.

Purpose

The purpose for revision is

- to amend and correct the terminology for requirement on apparatus;

- to correct the titles of normative references;

- to implement the latest experience regarding the use of friction reducing systems.
