PNW 34-1153 ED1: Low-pressure mercury discharge UV radiation sources for germicidal purpose - Safety specifications

Scope

This document specifies safety requirements of low-pressure mercury discharge UV radiation sources for germicidal purposes.

Purpose

UV-C sources and luminaires as an effective method for germicidal effect, attracts more and more attention, they are widely used in public infrastructures to achieve disinfection and sterilization.

This document acknowledges the need for safety specifications of low -pressure mercury discharge UV radiation sources for germicidal purpose, which mainly generate single -line spectrum radiation of 254 nm or dual-line spectrum radiation of 185 nm and 254 nm.

This document was prepared by referencing, wherever possible, the existing standards for similar types of discharge lamps used in general lighting: IEC 61195, IEC 61199 and IEC 60968. Additional or deviated requirements for germicidal UV sources are specified wherever necessary.

The provisions in this document represent the technical knowledge of experts from the field of the UV radiation for germicidal purpose, and are developed in close context with the safety of other type of UV radiation sources for germicidal purpose, e.g., excimer sources
