These protocols and procedures apply to measurement systems used to measure the absolute psSAR generated by different types of wireless communication devices that are used next to the ear, in front of the face, hand-held, mounted on the body, or embedded i n garments. This document applies to systems that measure the psSAR of devices that are intended to operate within 200 mm of the head or body.
The device categories covered include, but are not limited to, mobile telephones, cordless microphones, and radio transmitters in personal, desktop and laptop computers, for multi-band operations using single or multiple antennas operating at the same or different frequency band, even simultaneously, including push- to-talk devices.
The reference for the absolute value of the psSAR is determined independently from the measurement systems (i.e: via computational simulations). The document establishes acceptance criteria to ensure that measurement systems are consistently accurate and repeatable within expected uncertainty.
The applicable frequency range is from 4 MHz to 10 GHz.
At the Plenary held in London, UK on 2023-10-05, TC106 decided:
TC106 intends to transform IEC/IEEE 62209-1528 and IEC/IEEE 62209-3 into a restructured SAR standards series, with a new general standard on validation of measurement systems. TC 106 decides to form a new joint project team to work on a PAS for validation of SAR measurement systems.
The NWIP will also propose convener/s and will circulate for 8 weeks. The intention is to use the PAS content for a general IS on validation in course of the restructured series of SAR standards.
