PNW 32B-741 ED1: Fuse-links for road vehicles - Fuse-links with a rated voltage up to 1000V AC and 1500V DC

Scope

This document specifies fuse-links for the use in road vehicles. It establishes, for these fuse-link types, the rated current, test procedures, performance requirements and dimensions.

This document is applicable to fuse-links with a rated voltage up to 1.000V AC / 1.500V DC, a current rating of ≤ 1.500 A and a minimum rated breaking capacity of 20.000 A intended for use in road vehicles.

This document is intended to be used in conjunction with ISO 8820-1 and with ISO 8820-2. The numbering of its clauses corresponds to that of ISO 8820-1 whose requirements are applicable, except where modified by requirements particular to this document

Purpose

As the industry is going through transformation regarding the way vehicles are propelled – meaning the electrification of transportation. There is a need for a new standard for fuse links, because currently fuse links are standardized up to 450V DC and the industry is increasing the system voltage of electrical vehicles to meet market demands in regard to higher power needs. Electrical energy storage systems on vehicles continue to grow in size which drives requirements regarding minimum rated breaking capacity. IEC standardizes similar fuses for other applications and has therefore an interest to align with ISO on this project.
