Scope

This document contains general requirements and measures for machinery that performs packaging functions for:

— Conditioning of products and packaging materials

— Primary (first) packaging, secondary (second) packaging and tertiary (third) packaging.

Purpose

Currently no international standards on safety of packaging machines exist. Regional (EN) standards on this subject exist and are being used as blueprint for similar, but not identical, national standards in several countries. In order to avoid diverging requirements a set of international standards on packaging machines safety is imminent.
