CEN/TC 226 – Draft Decision D774c/2023 (WG 3) Adoption of PWI for the revision of EN 12899-1:2007 "Fixed, vertical road traffic signs — Part 1-4: Assembled road traffic signs"

Scope

This document specifies requirements and test methods for complete sign assemblies including sign face material, signs (sign plates with sign face material, trans-illumintated and externally illuminated signs) and supports. For the essential requirements and test methods this standard refers to Part 1-1, Part 1-2 und Part 1-3 of this standard series.

This standard does not cover:

• signs with discontinuous messages, e.g. using light emitting diodes (LED, or fibre optics),

• variable message signs,

• signs used for temporary purposes,

• test for extremely low temperature,

• sign gantry and cantilever structures,

• foundations

Purpose

The EN 12899 series is composed of:

- 3 product standards (EN 12899-1, EN 12899-2 and EN 12899-3)

- 2 testing and control standards (EN 12899-4 and 12899-5)

The aim of the revision is:

- to technically update the standard series

- to merged testing and control standards into each product standard

- to split the EN 12899-1 into 4 different parts (EN 12899-1-1, EN 12899-1-2, EN 12899-1-3, and EN 12899-1-4)

- to include micro-prismatic sheets (so far under EAD)

- Adaptation to the CPR
