Scope
This document establishes the basis for testing and classifying free-standing safes, safe plinths, built-in safes (floor and wall), ATM safes and ATM bases, strongroom doors and strongrooms (with or without a door) according to their burglary resistance. This document does not cover testing and classifying deposit systems and ATM systems
Purpose
(1) Security In the last years attacks with hydraulics have been more common. Even though it is not yet the main attack type, the working group should already include the test procedures, to have a solution, when a rise of attacks occurs.
(2) Regulatory Due to laws, smaller safes are required more commonly on the market. For this product type additional requirements will be defined.
(3) Digitalisation For locks with a network connection ("distributed systems") the EN 17646 was published. Currently this safe lock standard is not included in EN 1143-1 and must be integrated.
(4) European Market For usability and anchoring reasons "safe plinths" are sold in Europe anchoring to country and laboratory rules. For a common European market these rules should be harmonized and integrated into the EN 1143-1
