In this project, the following types of horti-luminaires are distinguished.
− Type A — horti-luminaires using LED modules where compliance with corresponding IEC performance standards is not given.
− Type B — Horti-luminaires using LED modules where compliance with corresponding IEC performance standard is not given.
NOTE Above distinguished types are same with that in IEC 62722-2-1. The conformity test distinguishing these two types of LED luminaires in IEC 62722-2-1 are followed by this part of IEC 62722.
Horticultural lighting, as one type of specific application, is becoming more and more popular, especially with the application of LED technologies, and the needs for facility farming, such as vertical farming and greenhouse.
Compared with general lighting, from performance aspect, the major differences for horticultural lighting are as follows:
• Changing of performance metric system from photometric to photon system, which is normally based on specific wavelength range;
• Increased concern for the endurance properties because of the close relevance to the crop yield.
This project acknowledges the need for defining performance data to be provided for horti -luminaires using LED as the electric source. Information to support the responsible horticultural lighting environmental use is also intended to be covered to fix the needs. The provisions in this project intend to represent the technical knowledge of experts from the field of the horticultural lighting, and are intended to be developed in close context with IEC 62722-1 (the performance standard for luminaires in general) and IEC 62722-2-1 (the performance standard for LED luminaires for general lighting purpose).
Development of this project will not only serve the above need, which can also serve as the technical support from lighting industry to the achievement of SDG 3, Good health and well -being, since the horticultural lighting based facility farming will help to improve the quality of the horticulture.
