Draft Decision CEN/TC 85 04/2023 Personal eye protection - Eye protectors for snowmobile users

Scope

This EN specifies requirements and test methods for eye protectors for snowmobile users. They are intended to protect the user from risks of mechanical impacts, corneal freezing, and from factors which may adversely affect the wearer's vision, such as UV radiation, sunglare and fogging.

Purpose

The EN 13178:2000 needs to be revised as it is included in the Table 1 “List of existing standards to be revised” of Annex I to the European Commission Implementing Decision C(2020)7924 on the PPE Standardisation Request in support of Regulation (EU) 2016/425.

Furthermore, following the systematic review closed early June 2023, experts indicated that EN 13178 refers to obsolete standards such as EN 1836 (replaced by EN ISO 12312-1), EN 174 (replaced by EN ISO 18527-1) and standards EN 166, EN 167 and EN 168 replaced by EN ISO 16321-1 and the EN ISO 18526 series of standards. Revision is needed given the need to incorporate the changes from EN to EN ISO in the eye protection methods documents.
