ISO/PWI 8702.2 Professional Technical Supervision of Corrosion Control Life Cycle Engineering

Scope

This document specifies the technical supervision requirements during the implementation of each control elements in corrosion control engineering.

This document is applicable to the technical supervision of all types of corrosion control engineering programme in the whole life cycle.

Purpose

In different construction and operation environment, the properties or performance of materials, equipment and facilities are reduced or even failed due to the universality, concealment, progressiveness and suddenness of corrosion, which causes huge economic losses and casualties in all countries. Corrosion in engineering is a global problem. Governments, related enterprises and industry organizations attach great importance to the corrosion problems existing in engineering projects. In order to prevent or mitigate corrosion, a series of scientific and technological achievements resources for corrosion control have been formulated and accumulated, such as professional technology and standard of corrosion, which play an important role in corrosion protection and control. However, these standards or regulations only involve a part of a single element in the whole life cycle of corrosion control engineering. For solving the corrosion problem globally, systematically and fundamentally, it is necessary to supervise and manage the control activities conducted throughout the entire engineering life cycle. At present, there is no systematic supervision standard for the whole life cycle engineering of corrosion control in the world.

In order to make the corrosion control project achieve the safest, optimum benefit and best allocation of resources, it is necessary to make accurate analysis on various elements related to corrosion control from the perspective of integrity, systematicness and coordinated optimization. Based on the above considerations, this proposal summarizes and draws up corresponding general supervision and control requirements to effectively supervise design, research, manufacture, transportation, installation, commissioning, acceptance, operation, maintenance, life extension and scrap disposal. It is meaningful to reduce safety accidents and improve economic benefits of project operation through scientifically supervising and managing in various corrosion control engineering life cycle. And it is also of great significance to ensure human health and safety, life and property safety, national security and ecological environment safety. In view of this, it is urgent to put forward an international standard to formulate technical supervision of corrosion control engineering life cycle.

This proposal carries out effective supervision and inspection on the measures related to corrosion control in various elements (corrosion source, material, technology, design, research and development, manufacturing, construction and installation, storage and transportation, commissioning and acceptance, operation, maintenance and repair, life extension and scrapping) of corrosion control engineering, and eventually formulates a set of third-party supervision procedures which meet the requirements of integration, systematization, mutual coordination and optimization of the main life cycle. This proposal tries to establish an integrated supervision system about management of corrosion control resources, the safety of corrosion protection operation and the maintenance of green ecological environment through implementing a set of systematic and comprehensive technical supervision procedures of corrosion control engineering life cycle.

Value of this Standard:

1) The proposal can improve the project economic benefits and ensure human health, life and property safety, national security and ecological environment safety.

2) The proposal can ensure that corrosion can be effectively controlled in the life cycle of corrosion control engineering, meet the requirements of integrity, systematicness, coordination and optimization, and achieve the goals of safety, economy and environmental protection.

3) The proposal can decompose and implement the supervision objectives of corrosion control project into various elements related to corrosion control engineering life cycle, and satisfy the requirements of safety, quality and environment. At the same time, corrosion protection and control run through every part of the whole life cycle of the project which continuous suitability can be supervised and improved.

4) This proposal can supervise the coordination and optimization of each elements in the life cycle of corrosion control engineering, to ensure that the whole life cycle of corrosion control engineering is compatible with that of the protected main programme.
