Draft Decision C 598/2023 Protective clothing - Ensembles and garments for protection against cold

Scope

This European Standard specifies requirements and test methods for the performance of clothing ensembles (i.e.g two piece suits or coveralls) for protection against the effects of cold environments equal to or below −5°C (see Annex C). These effects comprise not only low air temperatures but also humidity and air velocity. Requirements and test methods of garments for protection against cool environments are specified in EN14058. The protective effects and requirements of footwear, gloves and separate head wear are excluded from the scope of this standard

Purpose

EN 342:2017 is listed in the amended PPE Mandate M/571 in Table I of Annex I of the standards to be updated. In this context, Annex ZA needs to be updated.

Several normative references (same as in EN 14058:2017+A1:2023) need to be updated.

The goal is to start to integrate durability information in clause 5 through providing the information of the performance of the most crucial safety measures after extended washing or cleaning cycles to the end user to support the assessment of the expected lifetime and to differentiate across different products.

A further goal is to provide guidance on how to specify appropriate repair of PPE garments in clause 9 “Information supplied by the manufacturer” to integrate the R-Strategy Repair.

Annex E “Calibration garments A, B and C” needs to be reviewed and updated.
