Scope
This document describes a collection of typical use cases and technical requirements for the communication technologies to support the industry evolution and digital transformation in different vertical application domains, such as smart energy, smart manufacturing, smart healthcare, smart transportation, media, smart cities, active assisted living, smart home and smart building. It then provides the gap analysis between the application requirements (functional and performance-wise) and the capabilities of existing or emerging communication technologies.
As a result, a set of consolidated horizontal requirements across different domains are generated. Based on that, the applicability of selected technologies is shown as a standard reference for the application domains of concern. Meanwhile, gaps that cannot be satisfied by existing communication technologies are also identified to drive further standardization efforts in IEC and other relevant organizations
Purpose
The digital transformation of modern industry is developing into the “deep water” stage where advanced communications technologies are highly required in many vertical application domains ranging from energy, manufacturing and healthcare to transportation, media and home. With faster speeds, lower latency, and higher capacity and reliability, these technologies enable seamless connectivity and empower industries to adopt innovative solutions.
The goal of this project is to better understand the features, capabilities and applicability of existing and evolving communication technologies through the use case and requirement analysis of each application domain. It can be considered as a horizontal reference for the industry stake holders to choose proper technologies for specific business cases. On the other hand, it will provide standard recommendations in case gaps are identified or a need of harmonization is seen
