Standards Development
This document specifies a method for the sampling and laboratory preparation of benthic diatoms for ecological status and water quality assessments. The sampling and preparation procedures described can be used for later investigations using either light microscopy or molecular methods.
Molecular methods are not within the scope of the document.
Including more preservation methods and conservation solutions to cover all aspects of sampling diatoms from freshwaters, regardless of the manner in which the samples are further processed and investigated.
