Requirements for the test chamber and calculation method are given in this document, there are no explicit requirements for GUV luminaires.
The following are not included in the scope:
1) Visible radiation technologies
2) GUV sources and GUV control-gear
3) water disinfection and surface disinfection technologies
4) GUV devices which will be mounted in-duct in heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning units
5) (HVAC) systems since these devices are already standardised in ISO 15714 (Method of evaluating the UV dose to airborne microorganisms transiting in-duct ultraviolet germicidal irradiation devices).
6) GUV devices combining GUV with mechanical filters (e.g., HEPA filters), chemicals and/or additives.
7) ionisation air cleaning technologies
8) GUV devices intended for use in medical treatment locations such as surgical suites, laboratories and medical treatment rooms
A standardized method to quantify microbial cleaning capabilities of GUV luminaires is needed to help ensure unambiguous GUV luminaire product specification. Microbial clean air delivery rate, that can be determined in a defined test chamber, can be used to quantify the microbial cleaning capabilities of the GUV luminaires in a real applications. This international standard provides a method to quantify microbial cleaning capabilities of GUV.
Document 34/1008/DC was circulated on 2022-12-23 to National Committees for comment, with a closing date of 2023-03-17. Comments received were resolved by WG23 and 34/1055A/INF was distributed on 2023- 07-21.
During the preparatory work by IEC/TC 34/WG 23, it was determined that an informative annex should be prepared to describe the installation mode of the product, explain Colony Forming Units(CFU) and Plaque Forming Units (PFU), provide guidance on surrogate pathogen selection, and to provide background on the relationship between decay rate and air changes per hour, This work will commence when this NP is approved.
