Purpose
The revision of EN 12397:2017 will take into account the decision of the European Commission:
- who considered that this standard did not include elements related to the essential requirements of the Regulation and therefore could not have the status of a harmonized standard.
- who validated its preservation as a voluntary standard.
The revision of EN 12397:2017 will also consider the remarks made during the 5-year systematic review (CEN/TC242/N1159), in particular the following points:
Removal of provisions for fire prevention and fighting and reference to Chapter 10 of EN 17064
Consideration of risk factors that can have impacts on the safety’s operation and not currently considered. Particularly:
- lack or inadequacy of the managing feedback’s procedures;
- lack or inadequacy of internal control management and safety monitoring.
The current standard purpose an approach by missions and functions, by imposing some functions. A mission-only approach would provide operators with more flexibility in terms of operating organization.
The current standard does not specify requirements to ensure the operating’s traceability, also it’s an essential point.
The daily operating checks are currently covered in the EN 1709 “Pre-commissioning inspection and instructions for maintenance and operational inspection and checks” while they are made by operating staff.
This New Work Item Proposal is consistent with CEN/TC242 decision No. 2022/10.
