The document does not cover personnel involved with the survey and disposal of nuclear munitions.
The purpose of this standard is to provide an internationally accepted level of competency and corresponding qualifications for commercial EOD operations practitioners in the marine sector. The reason for its development is due to the potentially hazardous nature of the work of commercial ‘Marine Explosive Ordnance’ (MEO) operations which includes survey and subsequent explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) (including target investigation, removal or other risk mitigation) for which no internationally agreed standards of competence currently exist. Only a few jurisdictions have implemented statutory requirements for the training and qualification of individuals carrying out such work. Therefore, for the benefit of the industry and the safety of the general public, this standard has been developed with the encouragement of regulatory and industry stakeholders to provide information and specifications for appropriate skill requirements for personnel working in this field.
