Draft Decision C660 Adoption of PWI "Rooflights and roof hatches – Mechanical properties –Assessment methods and specification of results"

Scope

This European Standard specifies the assessment methods for the determination of the mechanical properties of rooflights and roof hatches to be used on upstands in flat and slightly inclined roofs.

This European Standard specifies the assessment methods for:

• resistance to uniformly distributed loads resulting from e.g. self-weight, snow, wind and other live loads;

• resistance to concentrated live loads;

• resistance to impacts of hard and soft bodies and the residual stability of the products afterwards and

• resistance to burglary attacks.

This document does not cover methods for rooflights or roof hatches which contribute to the structural stability or stiffness of the roof itself.

This European Standard applies to rooflights and roof hatches with upstands as well as rooflights and roof hatches supplied without an upstand, intended for use on upstands.

This European standard applies to fully factory assembled individual rooflights and roof hatches which are supplied as one unit as well as to continuous rooflights that are supplied in more than one prefabricated sections to be assembled onsite.

This European Standard does not apply to:

• doors, gates and barriers

• windows and roof windows

• curtain walling

Purpose

CEN TC128 SC 9 WG2 agreed for future projects on harmonized product standards for the different types of rooflights and roof hatches to draft several supporting standards containing the assessment methods for the relevant characteristics of the products reflecting also the difference between the different product types. This work is based on the documents prEN 1873-1:2020 (WI 00128172) and prEN 14963-1 (WI 00128173), which are the latest version of hEN 1873:2005 and hEN 14963:2006 and the draft documents for WI 00128190 and WI 00128191.

The assessment methods for all mechanical properties within these documents should be extracted and specified centrally within one document to ensure alignment where needed and offer the possibility to reference the methods within different product standards and to shorten the timeframe for drafting of the products standards
