Scope

This document introduces application services hosted by the HES gateway system, specifies the foundation to support application services, and specifies the requirements for additional application service standards in the ISO/IEC 15045-5 series.

Purpose

The purpose of this document is to provide the mechanisms for application services to be hosted
on the HES gateway system as introduced in the ISO/IEC 15045-1:2004 A residential gateway
model for HES, and ISO/IEC 15045-2:2012 Modularity and protocol standards. The specifications
in this document ensure that basic functions are provided to support application services, such as
specified in subsequent ISO/IEC 15045-5-x series of documents.

Market relevance:

This document is important for market growth as manufacturers, developers, and vendors of all
sizes and sectors in the home and building systems market will be able to make and offer specific
programs and specific applications using interoperable products within the scope of the HES
environment. Such interoperability offers to create significant market synergy, expand the available
range of applications, and generally serve the interests of consumers, manufacturers, vendors, and
society as a whole.
