PWI on Common test method for Phthalate content Regulated chemicals in products - Determination of the content of certain Phthalates by gas chromatography in plastic in articles supplied to the general public that come into direct contact with human skin and oral cavity.

Scope

This document specifies a standard method for the determination of several specific types of phthalates, namely

- di-iso-butyl phthalate (DIBP),

- di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP),

- benzylbutyl phthalate (BBP),

- bis-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP),

- di-n-octyl phthalate (DNOP),

- di-iso-nonylphthalate (DINP), and di-iso-decyl phthalate (DIDP),

- 1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, di-C9-11-branched alkyl esters, C10-rich,

- 1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, di-C8-10-branched alkyl esters, C9-rich, in children's products and toys.

The method described is appropriate for materials made from plastics, coatings, and liquids.
