EN 17670-1 Plastics piping systems for non-pressure underground conveyance and storage of non-potable water - Manholes, inspection chambers and road gullies for storm water systems made of unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-U), polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) - Part 1: Specifications for storm water manholes and inspection chambers)

Scope

This document specifies the definitions and requirements for unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVCU), polypropylene (PP), polypropylene with mineral modifier (PPMD) or polyethylene (PE) manholes and inspection chambers intended for use in road construction and civil engineering for nonpressure capture, carriage or infiltration of surface water and seepage water, to a maximum depth of 6 m from ground level to the lowest point of the internal surface of the manhole or inspection chamber.

NOTE 1 Civil engineering can include railways, below ground components of engineering and building structures, tunnel construction and sports fields.

NOTE 2 This document does not apply to manholes and inspection chambers for use in base drainage inside or beneath landfills and the discharge of foul wastewater into drains and sewers.

NOTE 3 This document is applicable for surface water applications where EN 135982 requirements are not appropriate. For some surface water applications, dependent on requirements, products complying with EN 13598 2 can be used. Products complying with this document are intended to be used in pedestrian or vehicular traffic areas outside the building structure.

NOTE 4 Products complying with this document can also be used in nontraffic areas. Products complying with this document are made from a prescribed set of components that are manufactured from unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVCU), polypropylene (PP), polypropylene with mineral modifier (PPMD) or polyethylene (PE) and assembled together. Manholes and inspection chambers complying with this document can be equipped with optional devices (e.g. removable sand or silt bucket, flow regulators, ventilation parts, etc.), however the performance of these optional devices is not covered within the scope of this document.

NOTE 5 Products complying with this standard can be installed in underground applications without additional static calculation.

NOTE 6 The complete manhole or inspection chamber assembly can also include items which are not covered by this document (for example near surface or surface components).

NOTE 7 Products can be supplied with covers, frame covers and gratings complying with the relevant part of EN 124 [1]. Manhole and inspection chamber components can be manufactured by various methods e.g. extrusion, injection moulding, rotational moulding, lowpressure moulding or fabricated.

NOTE 8 Products can be site assembled from different components, but can also be manufactured as a single unit.

NOTE 9 Products can be subject to national regulations and / or local provisions.

NOTE 10 Annex E gives information on the relationship between system performance and the requirements in this document.

Purpose

This application is for a document for Plastics piping systems for nonpressure underground conveyance of surface water Unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVCU), polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) — Part 1: Specifications for manholes and inspection chambers.

The document specifies the definitions and requirements for unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVCU), polypropylene (PP), polypropylene with mineral modifier (PPMD) or polyethylene (PE) manholes and inspection chambers intended for use in road construction and civil engineering for nonpressure capture, carriage or infiltration of surface water and seepage water, to a maximum depth of 6 m from ground level to the lowest point of the internal surface of the manhole or inspection chamber.
