PWI Adoption - Tractors and agricultural machines – Visibility of self-propelled machinery – Part 1: General requirements

Scope

This document specifies the visibility requirements for the operator at the driving position. This includes visibility requirements for working operations carried out from the driving position.

It applies to self-propelled machinery with ride-on seated operator used in agriculture.

This document addresses all significant hazards, hazardous situations or hazardous events related to the lack of visibility for self-propelled machinery used in agriculture, when used normally and under conditions of misuse reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer.

It does not apply to:

— driverless machines (e.g. agricultural robots),

NOTE driverless machines are machines capable of travelling without input from a human operator, by means of computer systems working in conjunction with on-board sensors.

— forestry machines,

— agricultural or forestry tractors,

— aircraft and air-cushioned vehicles used in agriculture,

— gardening or horticultural equipment, or

— specific components or functions of machinery (e.g. working tools and/or processes). It does not address:

— the visibility of the operator at the workstation, including maintenance and servicing stations, if this is different from the driving position;

— requirements for traffic on public roads;

NOTE Road requirements are subject to specific National or European regulations.

— the lighting of the driving position or visibility inside the cab;

— visual or audible reversing warnings.

This document does not apply to self-propelled machinery used in agriculture manufactured before the date of publication.

Purpose

To cover the visibility aspects in agricultural machinery, giving the general/comon safety aspects as well as a test method and acceptance criteria for direct and not direct visibility.

These aspects are not sufficiently covered in the current safety standards and should complete the series EN ISO 4254 as well as the European stand-alone standards on agricultural machinery.
