This document only encompasses fibre reinforced plastic working towers made of prefabricated elementsIt can be designed with reference to EN 1004-1.
This document does not apply to working towers made of materials other than fibre-reinforced plastic. This document does not apply to scaffolds according.
This document is not for the purpose of in-service testing of fibre reinforced plastic working towers. Note: Product which has been tested in accordance with this document must be destroyed after testing.
Working towers are temporary works equipment that have dimensions which are fixed by the design with a height up to 12 m (indoors) and up to 8 m (outdoors).
Fibre reinforced plastic working towers which made of prefabricated elements have the advantages of light weight, high strength, convenient installation, corrosion resistance. It is very suitable for quick on-site installation. More and more equipment installation and maintenance users worldwide are willing to select fibre reinforced plastic working towers to provide ascending protection.
The exiting standards such like DIN EN 1004, ANSI/ASSE A10.8 and AS/NZS 1576.3 are currently used as reference standards for some enterprises which produce fibre reinforced plastic working towers. But these standards only apply to working towers or work tower-like products made of metal, aluminium, bamboo or wood. Besides, these standards only provide the design requirements and technical requirements of the products, but no testing methods.
However, as we known, in the process of product development, tests are necessary to validate if all the performances are reach the design targets. In addition, the testing methods are the important basis for the third-party testing institutions to ensure that the indicators of the product meet performance requirements. The lack of test methods may lead to potential safety hazards, mutual nonrecognition in different countries, and even cause unexpected international trade frictions. Therefore, it is urgently needed to develop such a test methods standard for fibre reinforced plastic working towers in order to ensure the products quality, the foundation of the unification of test technology for manufacturers and the third-party testing institutions and the application of fiber reinforced composite in the field of work protection
