Scope

This document gives recommendations for the selection, use, care and maintenance of hearing protectors.

Purpose

The revision of EN 458:2016 was recommendend by CEN/TC 159/WG 5. There is a need to update this standard to the EN 352 series, to EN 17479 and to the new PPE Regulation whereby hearing protectors became a Category III PPE. The comments received during the systematic review ballot (see N 878 of CEN/TC 159) will be considered when revising the standard. Additional factors for selection (e.g. comfort, ergonomics, sustainability) might be added in the revision.
