This proposal sets out a measurement method for use in the manufacture of saw blades, grinding wheels and other industrial products for determining the impact toughness index or the thermal impact toughness index of various superabrasives grains. The measurement standard set forth herein applies to the synthetic diamond for sizes D 46 to D 851, and the cubic boron nitride for sizes B 46 to B 601.
The standard is developed with the purpose of providing a unified test method for the superabrasives quality and avoiding the technical barriers in the international trade.
China has become one of the largest global suppliers for the superabrasives, the products are exported to more than 10 countries and regions, such as Germany, the United States, the Netherlands, South Korea and India etc. However, there is no international standard related to checking the quality of the superabrasives product, which has made some difficulties in the international trade.
At present, the previous test method used to evaluate the superabrasives quality has not only poor stability and repeatability, but also highly influenced by the operating environment, test conditions, experimenters and so on. Meanwhile, the contradiction caused by the inconsistent test methods between consumers and suppliers is also more and more acute. However, taking the international standard as text method for technique data of toughness index or thermal toughness index as the basis of grading of the superabrasives quality, not only solves the problem of superabrasives quality management scientifically and the confusion in the international trade effectively, but also provides a unified test method for the product quality by formulating the standard, which can ensure the development of superabrasives industry healthily and orderly. Formulating the international standard “Superabrasive—Test method of impact toughness index” is conducive to promote international trade and raise products quality of superabrasives.
