Scope

The document sets out requirements and information for the design, application, selection, and operational integration of gas filtration in an operator enclosure that is environmentally controlled. It specifically addresses the removal of gas contaminants from the air using carbon-based filtration technologies. Gases that cannot be effectively removed by these technologies are not covered by this document

Purpose

This proposal is designed to address the unique challenges of gaseous environments in operations such as mining, and mineral processing. It aims to provide standardized approaches for manufacturing, testing, and applying gas filtration in operator enclosures in mining. It is intended to assist machine manufacturers, gas filter manufacturers, operations and maintenance personnel, health and safety professionals, and supervisory personnel in protecting the health and wellbeing of personnel who work in operator enclosures in gaseous environments.

The proposal focuses on the performance requirements for the operational integration of gas filtration in operator enclosures. It builds upon the requirements outlined in ISO 23875:2021 AMD 1 and addresses additional considerations specific to gas filtration, such as engineering, testing, and operational integration. This includes guidelines for the design, application, selection, and implementation of gas filtration systems in operator enclosures, which protect the health and wellbeing of personnel working in gaseous environments in mining.

In mining environments gases are commonly encountered in operator enclosures, and air filtration is a required engineering control to reduce operator exposures, which is addressed by this proposed standard.
