The combination of the system and platform KPI’s are used to establish a Facility provisioning profile, establishing standard forecasting methods to optimize data centre resource effectiveness.
In-Scope:
- Method for benchmarking and trending Facility provisioning for space, power and cooling infrastructure Excluded:
- IT equipment energy efficiency for servers (covered by ISO/IEC JTC 1 / SC 39 / WG 1 / 30134-4)
- IT equipment utilization for servers (covered by ISO/IEC JTC 1 / SC 39 / WG 1 / 30134-5)
- Application platform energy effectiveness (covered by ISO/IEC JTC 1 / SC 39 / WG 1 / 23544) - Data Centre facilities and infrastructures (covered by ISO/IEC JTC1 / SC39 / WG 3 / 22237.x)
Data centre space, power and cooling infrastructure are assets with long life-cycles that are either fixed, or have limited scalability. Data center management and operations, along with designers and planners have been challenged to identify appropriate infrastructure capacity criteria, intended to have life-cycles of 15 to 25 or more years, when designing new or upgrading existing data centers based on the current IT applications and systems ecosystem with life-cycles of 3 to 5 years. Data Center Facility Provisioning will provide a method to profile future space, power and cooling infrastructure required to support future IT system and platform requirements over the life of the facility infrastructure based on the data centre’s current IT applications and systems, and ITE platform assets, their expansion or contraction trends, and the impact of future changes in technology network, compute and storage processing density and efficiency. This will help guide designers and planners to optimize the capacity of the facility infrastructure, providing greater efficiency of the infrastructure resources implemented.
