This document sets out the principles, indicators, reporting requirements, and rating and evaluation requirements for ESG disclosure. It is applicable to all organizations to disclose their ESG information, it can also be used as a criterion for supervisory department to supervise organizations,for rating agencies to rate the developing potential of organizations and for investors to make investment decisions.
With the rapid development of ESG in recent years, ESG factors are widely used in research and investment related decision-making by many organizations around the world, many national stock exchanges and regulators require the listed companies to disclose ESG information voluntarily or mandatorily. Meanwhile, there is no formal standards of guidance on ESG information disclosure on the international level, neither on the national level. Only some international organizations published their own guidance, such as GRI, TCFD, SASB, and adopted by different companies to publish ESG related information. Thus, these ESG reports used different indicators, published in different forms, cannot be compared by the same criterion, nor be rated, data information is confusing and difficult to use effectively.
The proposed General Principle for ESG Disclosure in this project provides unified indicators and reporting form for companies to disclosure ESG information, assist them show their social responsibility , environmental awareness and the ability of sustainable development, and improve the value of enterprise investment.
The proposed project can provide the uniform criterion for rating agencies to rate companies’ ESG information, enhance the credibility of the ranking. The proposed project can create a tool to collect company data, assist government to formulate industrial development strategies for investors to compare the investment value of companies, assist investors make investment decisions easily.
TC309 will collaborate with related committees and liaise with the newly-formed ESG Coordination Committee in the development of the proposal.
