Decision 2023-03_NWI-revision-EN14215 Textile floor coverings - Classification of machine-made rugs and runners

Scope

This European Standard specifies requirements for machine-made (woven, tufted, knitted, needled, flocked, bonded, hand-tufted) rugs and runners, including a classification according to use intensity and luxury.

This European Standard is not applicable to hand-knotted rugs, to barrier mats or to bathroom rugs.

Purpose

Evolution in manufacturing procedures has ended up in rugs being manufactured starting from wall-to-wall textile floor coverings. Wall-to-wall machine-made textile floor coverings are classified according to EN 1307. Both EN 1307 and EN 14215 do use the same identification tools for addressing classes 21,22 and 23 but the requirements are different. Harmonization between the two classification standards EN 1307 and EN 14215 is needed as well as the addition of commercial application classes 31-32 to the standard EN 14215. Both issues have been raised by several users of classification standards and CEN TC134 WG8.
