Scope
At present in the UK, we have two standards that are based on the original parts BS 22475-2 BS 22475-3 and derived from ISO/TS 22475-2 & -3. These international documents have subsequently been revised with parts 2 and 3 having become ISO/TS 24283 parts 1, 2 and 3.
This proposed new standard will combine much of the information in ISO/TS 24283 parts 1 and 2, but in addition will draw upon UK industry best practice in relation to the training and qualification for key individuals (those responsible for obtaining the ground data those commissioning GI work and those providing technical advice). An important addition to the current content will be that related to geotechnicians (those involved with laboratory testing, field testing, instrumentation and monitoring).
Purpose
In the UK, the ground is the highest risk for structures and land contamination and costs UK PLC billions in conservative design and advice. It is essential to improve the quality of the Ground Investigation services industry and ensuring that the personnel involved are competent will underpin quality and reliability in the work which will reduce costs and increase sustainable solutions. This revised and updated standard aims to achieve this by providing a structure for training and assessment of key personnel involved in the ground investigation.
