PNW 99-402 ED1: Insulation co-ordination Part 14: Insulation co-ordination for AC/DC filters of HVDC system

Scope

This fourteenth part of the IEC series on insulation co-ordination provides application guidelines for insulation co-ordination of AC and DC filters for HVDC project, and applies only for HVDC applications in high-voltage a.c.power systems and not for industrial conversion equipment.

This standard applies to insulation co-ordination principle of AC and DC filters for HVDC system. And this is one of the planning standards in roadmap of HVDC insulation co-ordination. There are IEC documents about AC filter system, capacitor, reactor, and arrester, but no IEC document is currently applicable for systematic insulation co-ordination principle of AC and DC filter for HVDC system.

Purpose

This standard is the fourteenth part of the IEC series on insulation co-ordination. The structure of part eleven to fifteen of this IEC series was proposed by the former Ad-hoc Group 11 including restructuring of the existing standard IEC 60071-14 as well as expanding application for transmission lines and voltage-source converters.

The following structure of part eleven to fifteen of the IEC Series is planned:

“Insulation co-ordination”

Part 11: Definitions, principles and rules for HVDC system

Part 12: Application guidelines for line-commutated converter (LCC) stations

Part 13: Application guidelines for voltage-sourced converter (VSC) stations

Part 14: Insulation co-ordination for AC/DC filters of HVDC system

Part 15: Insulation co-ordination for DC transmission lines
