NWIP for a CEN/TR Methods of determination of the mechanical properties of self-bonding coating assemblies related to non-oriented electrical steels

Scope

This document describes the mechanical testing methods, relevant for self-bonding coating assemblies with non-oriented electrical steels. In particular, it describes the mechanical testing methods, sample preparation, calibration methods, necessary to obtain reliable results that can be considered a reference for quality evaluation.

This document applies only to self-bonding coatings of non-oriented electrical steels.

Purpose

The use of self-bonding coatings is spread for different types of electrical machines, as an alternative to welding, stapling, or gluing, in applications such as wind generators and EV traction.  The determination of the force that keeps the laminations together with such a self-bonding system, can be identified based on standards developed for other assembly types.  However the application of these standards for this specific assembly needs to be clarified, because it can lead to different results and hence difficulties in comparing data obtained to specification set.
