Scope

This document applies to battery powered chain saws for tree service, hereinafter referred to as chain saws, having a maximum mass of 5,0 kg with the heaviest battery as described in K.8.14.2 e) 2) of Part 1 installed but without a guide bar or saw chain fitted and with the lubrication tank, if any, empty. Chain saws covered by this document are intended to be used by a trained operator for pruning and dismantling standing tree crowns. The chain saws covered by this document are designed only to be operated with the right hand on the rear handle and the left hand on the front handle.

Purpose

Chain saws for tree service are widely used by professionals and consumers worldwide. This proposed new Part 4 standard is aligned with IEC 62841-1 Ed. 1.0: Electric motor operated hand-held tools, transportable tools and lawn and garden machinery - Safety - Part 1: General requirements
