Scope
This document specifies guidance for the development of standards and specifications covering plastics waste recovery, including recycling. The document establishes the different options for the recovery of plastics waste arising from pre-consumer and post-consumer sources.
The document also establishes general quality requirements that should be considered in all steps of the recovery process, and provides general recommendations for inclusion in material standards, test standards and product specifications.
The process stages, requirements, recommendations, and terminology presented in this document are intended to be of general applicability.
Purpose
Vast amount of plastics are used as indispensable materials in various fields, household, industry, transportation, domestic and individual daily life to maintain the social activities. At the same time, the volume of used plastics also proportionately piles up, therefore, the management and treatment of used plastics is now the very important issue to establish a sustainable society for all over the world. Recently, more attention has been paid not only to reuse, recovery, recycling, and disposal of the used plastics as the waste management but also to the prevention of release of the plastics waste to the environment especially to the ocean including the problems of microplastics. Many movements are being operated in the international scale by United Nations, G20 etc.
Achievement of SDGs is pressing challenges for the international community. Plastics production, use, reuse, recycling, and disposal etc. are closely related to the most of Goals.
