Where appropriate, it defines procedures for extended application of test results obtained in accordance with EN ISO 1716, EN ISO 11925-2, EN ISO 1182 and EN 13823 and classified according to EN 13501-1.
CEN/TS 15117:2005, Guidance on direct and extended application establishes the use of additional calculations together with an initial test results as a possibility for extended application. The rules given in this document are based on calculations considering the PCS values of the glass products and their components.
NOTE: Some glass products have been classified A1 according to Commission decision 96/603/EC, as amended 2000/605/EC.
This standard is not applicable to laminated glass comprising plastic glazing sheet material. This standard is not applicable to glues, mounting seals and any fixing devices used to install the glass product.
Glass products which shall achieve a classification with respect to reaction to fire and which contain organic materials such as laminated glass, insulating glass units, painted glass and filmed glass have to undergo tests according to ISO 1716, EN ISO 11925-2, EN ISO 1182 and EN 13823, and are classified according to EN 13501-1.
Due to the particular breakage behaviour of glass, the mounting and fixing rules given in EN 13823 are not appropriate to all situations. Indeed, glass breaks rapidly during test and fallen fragments often blocks the burner by more than half, leading to an early termination of the test. Classification is therefore not possible.
Moreover, considering the large number of possible laminated glass structures and insulating glass units, rules for the extended applications of test results are needed to keep the testing effort within reasonable limits while maintaining the necessary safety level. Therefore, the intended European Standard will give precisions on the mounting and fixing rules for testing glass products and provide guidance for testing. Where appropriate, it will define procedures for extended application of test results obtained in accordance with EN ISO 1716, EN ISO 11925-2, EN ISO 1182 and EN 13823 and classified according to EN 13501-1.
