Scope
To provide recommendations to designers on the information to be provided to the approving authority, within their package of supporting information, when submitting the calculations or CFD model for information and/or approval of design intent. Publishing this new guidance will provide a code of practice for the design of mechanical smoke ventilation of common areas in highly compartmentalised buildings such as residential accommodation buildings, which is not covered elsewhere
Purpose
There are no other suitable published guidance documents for either designers or approving authorities for smoke control to escape routes in buildings.
The Smoke Control Association has a guidance document which they have agreed can form the base document for this new part of the BS 7346 series. It will also provide recommendations to designers on the information to be provided to the approving authority, within their package of supporting information, when submitting the calculations or CFD model for information and/or approval of design intent. Publishing this new guidance will provide a code of practice for the design of mechanical smoke ventilation of common areas which is not covered elsewhere
This part of BS 7346 will set out the information and parameters that the designer should incorporate into the design when using calculations and/or CFD models.
It supports the recommendations for smoke ventilation of common escape routes as detailed in the statutory guidance of Approved Document B and supporting guidance of BS9991 and BS 9999.
