This standard specify the general requirements of D-WPT which applies to the railway systems in general.
This standard specifies the inter-operable conditions of dynamic wireless power transfer for railways. Interoperability needs to be supported when the manufacturer of primary device is different from the manufacturer of secondary device. Physical interface and efficiency requirements is described.
Also, it specifies the safety requirements of dynamic wireless power transfer for railways. Safety requirements include electrical safety and electro-magnetic safety. Electro-magnetic safety includes electro-magnetic field(EMF) safety with human bodies and electro-magnetic interference(EMI) to devices.
As the testbed construction of dynamic wireless power transfer for railways including light rail transit is increasing, the necessity of standard for dynamic wireless power transfer for railways has been addressed. Dynamic wireless power transfer for railways can solve the problems of catenary system and pantograph in railways such as the friction between catenary and pantograph, the large size of tunnel due to catenary. Regarding the cost comparison between dynamic wireless power transfer and catenary systems, it has been reported that there would be 20%~40% cost reduction at system level by using dynamic wireless power transfer. Dynamic wireless power transfer for railways would improve the landscape of urban city by removing the power line of catenary system. Also, D-WPT expands the operating range of wireless rolling stock. This standard specifies the inter-operable conditions and the safety of dynamic wireless power transfer for railways. This standard will reduce the cost of system construction and speed up the commercialization of dynamic wireless power transfer for railways.
