This document specifies a method for the determination of the abrasion resistance of the outer cover of rubber and plastics hoses. This test method is suitable for hoses with outside diameters from 10 mm to 100 mm.
This method is intended primarily for testing hydraulic hoses having textile- or wire-reinforcement and a nominally smooth and parallel cover, and other hoses of a similar type.
This method is not intended for predicting product abrasion life but is suitable for the comparison of abrasion levels.
There is a need in Europe for a test standard for abrasion resistance for rubber and plastics hoses. The relevant product data will be considered by CEN/TC218/WG2 and incorporated into the relevant hose standards EN853 to EN857. The previous standard for abrasion EN ISO 6945 was withdrawn by ISO and CEN. A working draft was already created by Mr. Björn Gessner, who confirmed to be the PL for this project.
The method described in the working draft was already confirmed, see the report of the meeting held by BSI in 2019: CEN/TC218/WG2 N0339, clause 6.3.
