Standards Development
This document defines the terms related to functions, products, and properties of algae and algae products. In order to better pack the methodologies, algae are regarded as a functional group of organisms consisting of microalgae, macroalgae, cyanobacteria and Labyrinthulomycetes.
CEN/TC 454 started with the standardization process of algae and alga products. EN 17399:2020 is the standard on terms and definitions. Since its publication, other CEN/TC 454 standards have been published and new standards are under development. As a consequence, new terms and definitions have been adopted in these standards - in addition to the terms and definitions presented in EN 17399:2020. Therefore, a revision of EN 17399:2020 is most relevant at this moment (all new standards and definitions used) in order to harmonize all new definitions used in CEN/TC 454 standards, and to include these in one document.
