ISO/NP 18955 Railway applications — Suspension components — Rubber diaphragms for pneumatic suspension springs

Scope

(Please see ISO/IEC Directives, Part 1, Annex C, Clause C.4.3) This international standard applies to suspension diaphragms designed to be fitted on railway vehicles and similar vehicles running on dedicated tracks with permanent guide systems, whatever the type of rail and the running surface.

This international standard does not detail other components of pneumatic suspension assemblies or control systems such as air reservoirs, frames, stiffeners, emergency suspension systems or elastic supports (such as series springs), etc., which will affect the diaphragm performance.

The international standard specifies terms and definitions, symbols and a bbreviated terms, conditions of use, definition of the product, inspection and test methods, marking, definition documents, traceability, qualification and quality surveillance, inspection and quality surveillance

Purpose

(Please see ISO/IEC Directives, Part 1, Annex C and additional guidance on justification statements in the brochure Guidance on New Work)

Diaphragm is the key component of air spring. The air spring is installed between the bogie and the car body, which plays the role of load transfer, vibration isolation and displacement ability. It is closely related to the stability, comfort and safety of the train. Because the a ir spring has many advantages, it has become the first choice of modern rail transit vehicles.

There is no international technical standard for the rubber diaphragm of the rail passenger cars, and only has the regional standard of EN 13597: 2003 and some national standards, such as Japanese and Chinese industry Standard. Therefore, the relevant technical standard has an urgent need for systematization, normalization and formulation.

Also the EN 13597:2003 standard is complied with the ISO/TC 269 – CEN/TC 256 Migration strategy, which has been passed with ISO/TC269/SC2/WG5.
