Purpose

Purpose and justification for developing the international standard Benefits after standard implementations

1. Technological benefits

 Fault diagnostic and prognostic technologies have been widely used in rolling stock in different countries, guided by certain common frameworks. According to our survey of numerous application cases, the feasibility of standardization is relatively high.

2. Economical benefits

 PHM system can be used on rolling stock to reduce operation/maintenance costs.

3. Social benefits

 The efficiency of maintenance of rolling stock can be improved with PHM system.

 The safety and reliability of rolling stock operations can be enhanced with PHM system.

4. Intended benefits

 This standard facilitates the definition and use of PHM system for railway rolling stock applications.
