CEN/TC 333 N 835, Activation PWI 00333065 prEN 17860_5 "Cycles – Carrier Cycles – Part 5: Electrical aspects"

Scope

This standard applies to:

- Functional and safety electrical aspects of carrier cycles covered in all parts of EN 17860

- Electrical aspects of electric cycle trailers covered in EN<<>>-7

- Electrical aspects of batteries used for carrier cycles

- Electrical aspects of chargers used for carrier cycles

This standard does not apply to:

- Charging stations.

This standard specifies requirements and test methods for engine power management systems, electrical circuits including the charger for the assessment of the design and assembly of carrier cycles and subassemblies for systems having a Safety Extra Low Voltage (SELV) maximum working voltage ≤ 60 V d.c. disregarding transients.

Purpose

At its 12th meeting, CEN/TC 333/WG 9 Carrier Cycles recommended CEN/TC 333 to activate work items 4-7 of the standard series for Carrier Cycles. The series will consist of the following parts:

• Part 1: Carrier Cycles – Terms & definitions (prEN 17860-1)

• Part 2: Carrier Cycles – Lightweight single track carrier cycles – mechanical and functional aspects (prEN 17860-2)

• Part 3: Carrier Cycles – Lightweight multi track carrier cycles – mechanical and functional aspects (prEN 17860-3)

• Part 4: Carrier Cycles – Heavy weight carrier cycles – mechanical and functional aspects (WI 0333064)

• Part 5: Carrier Cycles –- Electrical aspects (WI 0333065)

• Part 6: Carrier Cycles – Passenger transport (WI 0333066)

• Part 7: Carrier Cycles – Trailers (WI 0333067) Carrier cycles (cargo bikes) are used in a very wide application; from private use for carrying kids and groceries, to professional use for city centre logistics.

Carrier cycle types are therefore very different, ranging from single to multi-track, with a wide range of dimensions and also a wide range in load capacity. The proposed series accommodates the different aspects to cover the wide range of product types and applications.

Part 5 of the standard series will likely give requirements and test methods covering (but not limited to): Electrical requirements; Electric system; Controls and symbols; Batteries; Battery Charger; Electric cables and couplers; Wiring; Power cables and conduits; External and internal electrical connection; Moisture resistance; Mechanical strength test of the electrical components; Maximum speed for which the electric motor gives assistance; Walk and maneuvering assistance mode; Power management; Measurement of the maximum continuous rated power; Electro Magnetic Compatibility; Anti-tampering measures; Thermal hazards.
