BS XXXX 2023 Specification on Camping pods

Scope

This British Standard specifies requirements intended to ensure safety and health of persons using a camping pod, as temporary or seasonal accommodation.

It specifies grades of resistance to snow loads and the stability of the structure of the camping pod as well as the minimum information to be included in a user's handbook.

It also specifies the corresponding test methods.

Purpose

Over several years, in addition to caravan holiday home accommodation, UK holiday parks have developed a new style of holiday accommodation aimed at providing simple temporary or seasonal accommodation for ramblers and others. This form of accommodation has become known as a ‘camping pod’ (sometimes referred to as a ‘glamping pod’) and is typically, but not always, identified by its barrel roof profile where the side walls and roof are a combined curve.

Camping pods, unlike, caravan holiday homes, do not have habitation requirements relating to health and safety.

It is proposed to develop a national standard to address this need.
