This document addresses the requirement and corresponding test methods for SPD monitoring devices (SMD) which is used to monitor SPD working status and parameters and to communicates locally and/or remotely.
The requirement and test of SPD is referred to IEC 61643-X1 series according the application field of the SPD.
SPDs exist in the market for which additional function, compared to the basic surge protection function, are integrated to the SPD or may be used in conjunction with an SPD. These additional function are related to monitoring the SPD working status and parameters and to communicates locally and/or remotely.
Purpose of this Technical Specification is to standardized requirements and tests for these SPD monitoring devices.
