Scope
This document provides requirements and specifications with respect to design and installation of the following tertiary outfitting structure items:
— hand rails;
— safety gate;
— stairs;
— spiral stairs;
— vertical ladder;
— grating;
— manhole;
— connection method.
This document covers topside tertiary outfitting structure items used in fixed or floating offshore projects.
This document can also be applied for hull systems and onshore projects. This document will be developed based on major international standards to provide one common standard that can be applied to comply with requirements of different shelf regulations, such as those of UK, USA, Norway and Australia. Overall, the requirements described in this document will meet most of the specified regulatory requirements. Remaining differences with other standards for tertiary outfitting structure items, like ANSI and NORSOK, will be clearly stated in this document.
Purpose
The purpose of this document is to provide a uniform reference when tertiary outfitting structure is designed and constructed in offshore oil and gas projects. This document aims to reduce the number and variations in requirements to the minimum necessary to reflect a common and global best practice based upon existing standards and regulations.
The main benefits of more standardized tertiary outfitting structure items are expected to be reduced delivery time, more streamlined and efficient engineering and construction as well as improved cross use of tertiary outfitting structure items between projects. A riskbased approach has been used when defining the proposed requirements and recommendations. The underpinning factors for determining the recommended requirements are to provide an acceptable safety level for people in combination with cost efficient solutions for implementing the requirements.
