The concept of upgrade of an appliance and use of reused components are also addressed.
This Technical Specification does not deal with performance-related topics.
Following the decision of TC61 Bled meeting (see Item 5a of 61/5848A/RM), WG49 “Circular Economy and Material Efficiency" was established and requested to clarify the terminology (what is reuse, refurbish, recycling, etc); to collect and study information and documents on circular economy; and to consider the basic series of concepts to be applied under the conditions of reuse, repair, refurbish, etc for IEC 60335 products to ensure that they keep the basic safety criteria.
WG49 has developed this proposal. The document will serve to draw the attention of all market operators on the main points to be covered to ensure safety of this type of appliances.
