Smart manufacturing (SM) is defined by ISO and IEC that manufacturing that improves its performance aspects with integrated and intelligent use of processes and resources in cyber, physical and human spheres to create and deliver products and services, which also collaborates with other domains within enterprises’ value chains. It means SM is an effective for transforming industrial structures and processes by utilizing information technology. In addition, data linkage generated in SM executing process between manufacturing processes or companies is expected to create new value and become a driving force for companies to improve their business competitiveness.
For implementing SM, one of the important requirements is the utilization of relevant information at appropriate points. Especially, at the design phase, a critical challenge is to prevent unintentional specification omissions. This is because SM is a cross-cutting technology and a wide range of reference models, use cases, architecture and standards are required.
To address this challenge, the navigation tool as an IT tool assists users such as standard developers and system developers to design SM systems through providing access to related reference models, use cases, architecture and standards.
