PNW 46A-1557 ED1: Sectional specification for semi-rigid cables with silicon dioxide dielectric

Scope

This part of IEC 61196 specifies the materials and cable construction for semi-rigid coaxial communication cables with silicon dioxide dielectric, IEC type designation, identification, marking and labelling, standard rating and characteristics, requirements of finished cables, quality assessment, delivery and storage, etc.

This part of IEC 61196 applies to semi-rigid coaxial communication cables with silicon dioxide dielectric and tubular outer conductor. These cables are intended for use in applications demanding the extreme environments as well as the satellite, nuclear power plant, oil rig and military aircraft.

Purpose

Coaxial cables with PTFE dielectric as specified at IEC 61196-10 always exhibits a material characteristic which is call it the PTFE Knee. The phase constant varies as a function of temperature. An unidirectional or multidirectional variation can be demonstrated by the phase stability test.

The proposed new cables with silicon dioxide insulation exhibits both, improved phase constant versus temperature as well as attenuation stability over a wide temperature range (-273°C to over 1000°C).

There is a market demand for this kind of cables used in applications demanding extreme environments as well as the satellite, nuclear power plant, oil rig and military aircraft application.
