ISO/TC 8/SC 8 N 657, ISO/NP 3797 Shipbuilding -- Vertical steel ladders

Scope

This standard is the revision on ISO 3797:1976.

This standard specifies the type, structure, dimension, material and technical rerquirement of vertical steel ladder.

Purpose

As the important part of the access, vertical steel ladder is one of the most common outfitting onboard, of which design and manufacture quality are closely related to the safety and comfort of the vessel. The international standardization of vertical steel ladder is extremely important.

The effective international standard of vertical steel ladder is ISO 3797:1976, which is issued on 1976. In the past 40 years, with the rapid development of shipbuilding technology, relevant international and national maritime organization rules and specifications have been issued, ISO 3797:1976 is obviously not comply with the requirements and current needs of design. Production and manufacturing for the vertical steel ladder nowadays.

See as follows:

1 There is no requirement of PSPC surface treatment in ISO 3797:1976, which is not comply with IMO MSC.215(82)

2 Length of vertical steel ladder in ISO 3797:1976 is not comply with the requirement in IMO MSC/Circ.686/Rev.1

3 There is no fall protection in ISO 3797:1976, which is not comply with DMA Order No.506.

4 There is no specification of support connection in ISO 3797:1976, which is not valid for strength assurance and manufacture for vertical steel ladder.

The revision of ISO 3797:1976 can meet the requirements of IMO and DMA, can greatly profit the ship design, can provide the basic for type selection of vertical steel ladder, can offer the technical requirement for production and installation, can ensure the safety and comfort of the ship access. Shipyard, ship owner, inspection organization and outfitting manufacture will benefit a lot from the proposed deliverable.
