Standards Development
This document specifies the characteristics of prevailing torque (all metal) hexagon high nuts, in steel and stainless steel, with metric coarse pitch thread M5 to M39, and with product grades A and B. If in certain cases other specifications are requested, property classes and stainless steel grades can be selected from ISO 898-2 or ISO 3506-2.
ISO 7720 is part of the nut product standards series from ISO/TC 2/SC 12.
Its content (including title and scope) does not reflect any more the state of the art and market needs. The revision of the basic standards for nut mechanical properties occurred, see ISO 898-2 (currently at DIS stage) and ISO 3506-2 (published in 2020) and they shall be taken into account in the revision of ISO 7720:
- deletion property class 9 for steel nuts, already cancelled from ISO 898-2,
- addition of stainless steel nuts in accordance with ISO 3560-2,
- furthermore, it is intended to develop this standard under Vienna agreement (parallel work with CEN).
It will provide a complete set of up-to-date nut product standards to the end-users, reflecting the state of the art (fasteners are used for all industries and worldwide).
