This standard applies to passenger car and specifies the terms and definitions, test conditions, test methods and technical requirements after the test for the external protection of passenger cars.
The external protective device of the vehicle can absorb the energy of the low-speed impact of the vehicle, relieve the impact of external objects on the vehicle body and parts, and has a main protective effect on the structure of the vehicle body and the internal and external parts. ISO 2958 was formally issued and implemented in 1973. It specified the technical requirements and test methods for the external protection of vehicles in low-speed collisions (test vehicle speeds were 2.5km/h and 4km/h, respectively) for the early external protection devices of vehicles. More than 40 years have passed.
The exterior protective structure of automobiles has evolved from the traditional old-fashioned bumper to a comprehensive integrated structure with new components installed. Some emerging components and sensors, such as AEB system, LDW system and other sensors, emerging lighting systems, and charging port in electric vehicle, are generally installed on the external protection device of the car, making the concept and structure of the external protection structure of the vehicle have undergone significant changes. With the widespread use of SUVs and similar models, the overall height of external protective devices has changed, the current reference height of ISO 2958:1973 is not applicable to the real vehicle characteristics.
Therefore, the performance requirements of ISO 2958:1973 after the low-speed crash test of vehicles can no longer meet the needs of today's automobile development. There is an urgent need to revise the technical requirements for various new structures and components installed in the external protective device of the vehicle and add to the standard.
In summary, this project is a revision of the ISO 2958:1973 standard. Additional requirements have been added to the relevant technical requirements for emerging functional components on the external protective device of the vehicles. It aims to upgrade the technical requirements of the exterior of the vehicle in a low-speed collision, to establish a more scientific evaluation method, and to adapt to the application of latest automobile technology to the development demand of automobile exterior protection, reduce the collision damage of the internal and external devices and components of the vehicle, ensure the integrity of the vehicle, and reduce the economic cost of users after low-speed collisions of vehicles, and promote global resource conservation related to the intelligent and connected performance of vehicles.
Considering the application of electric vehicles and the widespread installation of emerging sensors and components on external protective devices of vehicles, the scope of ISO 2958:1973 should be revised. The functions of electric vehicles and emerging components and special parts of protective devices installed on vehicles need to be indicated in the technical requirement. Compared with ISO 2958:1973, the definition of new protection devices is added this time, the definitions of full-load weight, reference height, vehicle angle, etc. have been revised, the relevant technical requirements for electric vehicles have been added, the technical requirements of the front and rear protection devices, its covering structure and other functional components at the front and rear protective devices also have increased
